Took the Day Off Because I Could

Took today off because I could. No emergency, no big plans, no dramatic life event. Just decided I wanted one more day where my alarm clock didn't get to pretend it was in charge.

It's funny how taking a random day off feels like you're getting away with something. Meanwhile, work will still be there tomorrow, doing what work does best: existing. Today belongs to me, and for once that's reason enough.

WordPress Has Left the Building

I am dropping WordPress completely. I spent more time fighting themes, plugins, hidden settings, and CSS that apparently had its own opinions than I did actually working on the site.

I am going back to plain HTML. No dashboard, no updates, no plugins breaking because another plugin looked at them wrong. Just files, code, and a website that does what I tell it to do.

Apparently the future of the web is going back to the 1990s. Fine by me. At least back then a website did not need twelve extensions, three subscriptions, and a support forum to remove an underline.

Work Again? Seriously?

Vacation is one of the biggest scams adults willingly sign up for. You spend months looking forward to it, finally unplug, remember what it is like to wake up without an alarm, and then it is over before you know it.

Now I am back at work, and somehow it feels like I never left. My brain is still somewhere on vacation while the rest of me is standing here pretending to be productive. It is a miracle anything gets done the first day back.

The funny part is I barely unpacked before I started thinking about the next break. That is probably the most honest sign that vacations are good for you.

A few days without schedules, alarms, or constantly watching the clock reminds you there is more to life than work. Whether it is geocaching, hitting the road, relaxing, or just doing absolutely nothing, it is amazing how fast life feels normal again when nobody needs something from you every five minutes.

So the countdown starts all over. Another long weekend, another vacation, hell, even one random day off sounds pretty damn good right now.

I will keep showing up, doing my job, and paying the bills because that is how adulthood works. But I am also going to keep planning the next escape, because life is too short to spend all your time waiting for Friday.

Midwest Geobash 2026

We set up camp in Wauseon, Ohio for Midwest Geobash 2026. Thousands of geocachers showed up carrying GPS units, folding chairs, trackables, and enough questionable planning to qualify as a government project.

There was geocaching, campfires, old friends, strange people, ice cream lines, and plenty of sitting around talking nonsense. In other words, a successful weekend.

6,000 Geocaching Finds

Hit 6,000 geocaching finds this weekend. That is 6,000 containers located in trees, guardrails, parking lots, cemeteries, parks, and places where normal people would never willingly stick their hands.

No trophy, no parade, and thankfully no motivational speech. Just another number logged and another reason to keep wandering around outside looking suspicious.
